Set design for ‘Alcina by G.F.Händel’
Alcina reigns over her Island covered with flowery spikes. The spikes make breathing motions and react to events on the Island by growing and shrinking.Visiting men are instantly brought under Alcina’s spell, falling madly in love with her before they are being discarded and turned into pieces of the island.
All enchanted ex-lovers together form Alcina’s island, it is a large breathing organism covered in 18th century English silk patterns, similar to the ones the visitors might have worn at the first premier of the piece.
